Raymond Antrobus

Raymond Antrobus is a British Jamaican poet, educator and writer born in 1986 in Hackney, London, to an English mother and Jamaican father. Deaf since early childhood and undiagnosed until age six, his work — including the celebrated collection The Perseverance — explores themes of sound, identity, memory and belonging. He has won major honours such as the Rathbones Folio Prize (the first poet ever to do so), the Ted Hughes Award, and the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award — and also writes children’s books, bringing representation for deaf and mixed heritage experiences into children’s literature.
