You Are a Champion: How to Be the Best You Can Be is an amazing book filled with inspirational quotes. As a football fan I loved the fact that it showed me what it takes to not only become a professional footballer but to succeed in life in general.
The book doesn’t really focus on Marcus Rashford’s life story but instead each of the chapters focuses on a different life skill that will help you be the best you can be. There were two chapters that I found particularly helpful.
The chapter ‘Dare to Dream’ taught me that you can achieve anything in life if you have the right work ethic and determination. This is shown in the book as Marcus Rashford was born into a difficult life of poverty in Manchester but he still practiced football everyday which helped him to get out of that and achieve his dream.
The other chapter I found most inspiring was ‘Never Stop Learning’. This taught me that even if you are the best at something there is always something you can do to improve at it. Also, it shows that you can learn something new at any time in your life, you have just got to be a good listener.
To conclude, I think people should make time to read it as it will teach them some very important lessons that will help them out in life no matter what they do.

This motivational non-fiction book by inspirational football icon Marcus Legend is perfectly pitched for teen readers aged 10- 14 years.
Written with journalist Carl Anka, You Are a Champion is packed full of stories from Marcus’s own life, brilliant advice and top-tips from performance psychologist Katie Warriner. It will show you how to be the very BEST that you can be, not just as a footballer but in all aspects of your life. It is published by Pan Macmillan who we thank for sending us a copy for 13 year old Jimmy to read and review (Please scroll down to see what he says about it).
It shows kids how to:
– Be comfortable with who you are – you can’t be a champion until you’re happy being you!
– Dream big
– Practise like a champion
– Get out of your comfort zone and learn from your mistakes
– Navigate adversity in a positive way
– Find your team
– Use your voice and stand up for others
– Never stop learning
