Book Review

if I could make a magic castle in the clouds like the one in the book I would make one where I could play video games all day

I started reading this book the same day I got it because it’s a graphic novel so it was quicker to read. It doesn’t matter if you’ve not read Book 1 because the general idea is quite clear. Although you need to read Book 1 to understand why there is a talking muffin and why Unicorn Boy needs to keep going to the toilet!

It is about unicorns so it’s a fantasy story all about magic and the pictures are in colour. I thought the name of the story was quite interesting. People think of unicorns as sweet caring horses but in this book they are more like humans with a range of abilities. There’s a funny bit where Unicorn Boy got toilet paper stuck on his foot and then he is really embarrassed and everybody laughs.

There are some really dramatic pictures on pages 88-91 but don’t go straight there as it will give you spoilers. A character called Uniclops is a Cyclops/unicorn – he is always embarrassed and idiotic.

I wouldn’t want to go to the unicorn castle but if I could make a magic castle in the clouds like the one in the book I would make one where I could play video games all day.

I would recommend this to people who liked the first book. If you haven’t read the first book, read it right now! I think this book is for ages 8 and over because it has tricky words such as ‘obituary’ and ‘conspiracy’.

About the Book

Brian always felt a bit different compared to other kids. Even before growing a unicorn horn, discovering a talking muffin and swallowing the ruler of the Underworld to save his BFF. So when he receives a mysterious invitation for a Unicorn-Only Sleepover, Brian wonders if these fellow magical creatures might help him make sense of his increasingly odd world!

But held in an enchanted castle in the clouds, not everything at this glitzy, glamorous party is as it seems. Are the negative feelings in his gut just anxiety, or is something else at play?
