Book Review

I found that I couldn’t bear to put my bookmark in and do something else; it was a real page-turner.

This book begins simply enough with Twitch and his birds, but then twists into a captivating mystery with a robber on the loose. Twitch is an enchanting tale of friendship and suspense by M.G Leonard, who wrote Beetle Boy and the Adventures on Trains series. She is a brilliant author and I loved taking a dive into her wide imagination.

Twitch loves his feathery friends and has pigeons on his roof and chickens in his garden. I loved the fabulous description of all the beautiful places that Twitch visits: his house, Aves Woods, even a house-boat! I particularly enjoyed reading about his bird-watching hide, hidden deep in the forest.

But the robber disrupts his peaceful holiday and Twitch becomes entwined within a thrilling chase, using clever tactics and quick thinking to catch the culprit.

I found that I couldn’t bear to put my bookmark in and do something else; it was a real page-turner. I loved it so much, I finished it in a few hours and then could’ve read it all over again!

The characters and storyline were smooth and well rounded; you could feel the robber prowling in the woods and smell the bird poop splattered on the roof of his house. Twitch himself was a shy boy, but he made new friends and together they solved a mystery. I recommend this to anyone who loves birds or is ready for an adventure!

About the Book

Twitch has three pet chickens, four pigeons, swallows nesting in his bedroom and a passion for birdwatching making him a bit different from the other children at his school.

On the first day of the summer holidays, he arrives at his secret hide to find police everywhere: a convicted robber has broken out of prison and is hiding in Aves Wood.

Can Twitch use his talents for birdwatching to hunt for the dangerous prisoner and find the missing loot?
