I haven’t read anything like this book before. I would recommend it to anyone who likes nature.
I like Rinti the squirrel because she is sad when she can’t eat the special acorn. If Rinti was my squirrel I would ask for acorns.
There are some pictures which make a good atmosphere. I especially like the picture of the squirrel on page 49. I would like to meet the Tree Thing because it’s cool.
If the Tree Thing was in our garden we would actually be able to grow a giant sunflower and there would be better plants. I would make sure that the Rider aka the King of Moss doesn’t come.
There is something in the book that puts you off forever eating acorns – I won’t tell you what it is because it’s the ending of the story.
If I had to describe the book in 3 words I would say ‘tree’ and ‘dead tree’. The ending chapter is called ‘A new story’ which sounds like a beginning. The beginning is like the ending.

Piers Torday is a British author best known for writing adventurous and imaginative children’s books. He gained recognition for his debut novel The Last Wild, the first book in a bestselling trilogy about a world where animals can communicate with humans. Torday has won several literary awards and is also known for continuing the story of Roald Dahl’s classic characters in The Magic Finger: The Glove of Power.
