As you read The Swallows’ Flight, pictures pour into your head making you feel excited, scared and surprised all at once
This is an amazing story based in the start of the 2nd World War. It follows the life of four children: Ruby, Kate, Eric and Hans. Ruby and Kate are two English girls, caught up in the war. Eric and Hans are two German boys, working for the Luftwaffe (the German air force). Last of all to add all the characters up is Pax. The moth eaten, scruffy dog every one adores.
Hilary McKay writes the story beautifully. As you read The Swallows’ Flight, pictures pour into your head making you feel excited, scared and surprised all at once. You can travel to the 2nd world war in your comfy arm chair! I really liked that it told both sides of the story: Eric and Hans gave you a German perspective; while Ruby and Kate showed you what it was like for English evacuees. It made me realise that even though Covid’s going on, I’m lucky to live in this era.
I’d definitely recommend this book to fans of Carrie’s war by Nina Bawden or any other war stories for children. Read this book – you won’t regret it!
