The Iron Man in this story is not a typical hero
Ted Hughes was a famous poet and he tells this story in a different way to other books that you might read. He uses lots of interesting words to describe the characters and the adventures they have.
One of the main things I loved about this book were the illustrations as they are so unique and original. There are lots of them on every page and they are very detailed.
The Iron Man in this story is not a typical hero. At first everyone is terrified of him because he begins eating all of their farm machinery. When he meets a young boy who has a good idea to make him stop destroying everything, all this changes.
I had no idea what was going to happen in each chapter of the book which made it even more exciting.
About the Book
This stunning paperback edition of the children’s modern classic The Iron Man by Ted Hughes pairs the well-loved story with illustrator Chris Mould. In this beautiful book Chris’ artwork is strikingly bold, yet intricately delicate at the same time making each page a feast for the eyes.
The science-fiction action tale is suitable for independent readers aged 9 – 12 years, but the full colour illustrations make it an attractive story to be read out-loud and therefore enjoyed by younger children too.
Mankind must put a stop to the dreadful destruction by the Iron Man and set a trap for him, but he cannot be kept down. Then, when a terrible monster from outer space threatens to lay waste to the planet, it is the Iron Man who finds a way to save the world.

Ted Hughes (1930–1998) was an acclaimed English poet whose vivid, often mythic writing made him one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century. He served as the U.K. Poet Laureate from 1984 until his death, producing works noted for their raw power and connection to the natural world. His major books—including 'The Hawk in the Rain', 'Crow', and 'Birthday Letters'—cemented his reputation as a visionary and emotionally intense writer.

Chris Mould is an award-winning British author and illustrator born in Bradford. He studied interior design and graphic illustration, and now creates gothic-tinged children’s books from his studio in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
