I like that Daisy ends up meeting the real Ickabog and understands it and shares advice
This story starts off a little sad with the king not realising that the seamstress was ill and therefore ended up dying. Her daughter was really sad and then they got moved out of their house as the king said it was too big and moved a different family into the house at no point did the king think about the little girl Daisy or her feelings.
When the farmer from the swamps comes along and tells the king his dog was taken by the Ikabog the king goes to see it for himself, when they get there their brain plays tricks on them and they think they see it and end up killing one of there own soldiers they then cover this up.
I like that Daisy ends up meeting the real Ickabog and understands it and shares advice. Its nice to see that they have someone to talk too. The descriptions though out the story really mean you can imagine the characters as you are reading.
This story is really good and I would say is for both boys and girls and for all ages. I loved the black and white pictures because I can imagine the colours myself . They have so many little details that each time you look at them you something else.
About the Book
Once upon a time there was a tiny kingdom called Cornucopia, as rich in happiness as it was in gold, and famous for its food. From the delicate cream cheeses of Kurdsburg to the Hopes-of-Heaven pastries of Chouxville, each was so delicious that people wept with joy as they ate them.

And when that myth takes on a life of its own, casting a shadow over the kingdom, two children – best friends Bert and Daisy – embark on a great adventure to untangle the truth and find out where the real monster lies, bringing hope and happiness to Cornucopia once more.

Ben Mantle
Ben Mantle is a British children’s book illustrator and author born in Leamington Spa, England, who studied Animation at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design and worked in animation before focusing on books in 2008. He is known for his lively, expressive artwork in titles such as The Best Birthday Present Ever!, Bunnies on the Bus, and many other picture and fiction books for young readers, and he has illustrated award‑winning works like Callum’s Incredible Construction Kit. Mantle lives and works in Brighton, where he also creates screen prints and digital art alongside his book illustration career
