It is set out like a diary and very easy to read
It’s about your average schoolchild who wants to be popular and be the ‘cool’ kid.
The characters in The Cheat Book are Kamal, Keisha, Wing, Jojo, Mum, Dad and sisters called Zahra, Somali and Yasmin. The story is about what happens at school.
Kamal is daydreaming in class he really likes Keisha and she changes into the teacher. The teacher starts shouting at Kamal and he hasn’t done his homework. Weird things start to happen in class like the chairs lift up and things are moving suddenly he comes back down to earth.
Kamal goes to the school library and finds a cheat book. The book is magic because everything he asks for comes true. He gets to sit on the cool table. He shares the book with Wing and JoJo. But in the end everything returns to normal.
There are colourful pictures, illustrations and diagrams on every page. It is set out like a diary and very easy to read.
I would recommend it to children aged 8-10 years.
About the Book
Kamal is better than anyone else in his school at fading into the background. When you’re a refugee and you’ve started a new school three times in as many years, you learn to keep your head down.
But, after a major puke incident in front of the whole school, being invisible is no longer an option. And when Kamal finds a mysterious CHEAT BOOK in the library that promises to help him gain popularity, he sees a chance to finally make his mark . . .
