Book Review

If I was writing a rap, I would write one about a leaf named Beef! I can’t find any other words that rhyme with leaf or even beef so let’s ditch that idea…

This book is from the National Year of Reading. There’s poems and raps by Michael Rosen and MC Grammar who is a DJ. They have two different opinions about school dinners and they each have a different perspective.

It’s hard to recognise raps when they’re written down: I think they need to be performed out loud. One of the raps talks about a parrot dreaming of going on a stage.

There’s a rhyme called ‘Who did that poo in the loo?’ which stuck in my head. Maybe the author had just been to the toilet!

There are cartoon-style pictures where the people have large heads, drawn by Mike Byrne.

If I was writing a rap, I would write one about a leaf named Beef! I can’t find any other words that rhyme with leaf or even beef so let’s ditch that idea… Please tell the poets I want to read a rap about a farting cow: moooooo! I prefer writing poems though.

I think children who like the 13-Storey Treehouse series will like this book because there are lots of pictures and silliness.
