It was a fantastic adventure but also full of political problems, which made it a very different story to the ones we usually read
Pop! was a very good book that I enjoyed immensely. It was funny and made me laugh out loud, but it also made me think. All the characters intrigued me and I wanted to know more about their backgrounds and special stories. The author, Mitch Johnson, clearly thought a lot about his choices and the result was a quick, smooth read.
Queenie de la Cruz lives with her mum and brother in a run down hut by the beach. Life is normal and they muddle along happily. But when the secret recipe for the world’s most sought-out drink, Mac-Tonic, washes up at the beach, Queenie is suddenly forced into a great adventure.
It was two children against the world in this amazing story. I loved all the excitement and amazing description of America. It was a fantastic adventure but also full of political problems, which made it a very different story to the ones we usually read.
I recommend this to anyone who is ready for a race across America!

This sparkling adventure from award-winning author of ‘Kick’, Mitch Johnson is about the power of courage, standing up for what’s right, as well as fizzy drinks!
When the priceless recipe to the world’s most popular drink – thought to be lost forever – washes up at her feet, Queenie’s life instantly changes. Everyone wants it, and with a $10 million bounty on her head, Queenie’s soon on the run which makes Queenie begin to see the world around her more clearly – a world in which a big corporation’s excess has left the planet covered in its plastic bottles and waste.
Suddenly, the home she always dreamed of escaping, and the ocean she grew up with and took for granted, don’t seem so bad.
