The author gets the right level of humour, awkwardness and truth and this is echoed throughout the whole book with the way the characters interact with each other
When I received this book I was so excited – Rob Biddulph – who had helped me through lockdown with the drawing videos and the world record challenge and now he’s written a book! In summary this is an adventure story about friendship and working together and I would say it is a good read.
When I started reading the book I got really in to it and the illustrations are a wonderful addition to the story.The characters are strong and well thought through.
I love Rockwell because he’s so kind to Peanut and his character is kind of relatable.One of my favourite moments in this book is when Peanut meets Rockwell, because the author gets the right level of humour, awkwardness and truth and this is echoed throughout the whole book with the way the characters interact with each other.
This book did take me a little while to read because it is quite long, but was easy to pick up each time. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to seeing what Rob does next for readers of my age.
About the Book
This is the first title in a new adventure series for boys and girls aged 8 – 12 years by creative superstar Rob Biddulph, who is responsible for getting the Nation drawing during lockdown with his #DrawWithRob interactive social media campaign.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the author’s passion, the lead character in this book ‘Peanut Jones’ loves to draw too, but unfortunately it seems that art can’t fix her problems. Her dad has gone missing, and she’s stuck in a boring new school. But one day she finds a unique pencil turbo-charged with special powers. Suddenly she’s pulled into a world packed with more colour, creativity, excitement and danger than she could ever have imagined. And maybe, just maybe, she might find out what happened to her dad…

Rob Biddulph
Rob Biddulph is a British children’s author and illustrator, known for picture books like 'Blown Away', 'Odd Dog Out', and the 'Peanut Jones' series. During the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, he launched the hugely popular #DrawWithRob series of draw-along videos, and even broke the Guinness World Record for the largest ever online art class.
