I love reading Kieran Larwood’s books especially the 'Podkin One Ear' series, and this book was definitely no exception
I really enjoyed this book because of the historical-fantasy side of it, as well as the odd friendships and rivalries (with Cindra and Edwyn). I thought how they found out that Jed was a leaf was cool too.
I really liked all the amazing powers each of the guilds had especially the guild of leaf, I thought that the ‘skin of bark’ that Jed preformed was cool as well. The competitive side was good as well and I really enjoyed the competition at the start.
Some of my favourite characters were Hazel (of the guild of leaf), Jed (of the guild of leaf) and Cindra (of the guild of fire). I liked Hazel because she seemed really mean and not friendly at the start, but she was actually really nice. I liked Jed because of his unlikely chance of actually being a member of a guild. And I obviously liked Cindra because she was mean and really not very friendly, but I really enjoy reading about these people. I also loved the illustrations, especially the first one (the queen with Cromwell).

About the Book
