How I Saved the World in a Week Reviewed by Alastair, Age 11

How I Saved the World in a Week is scary, exhilarating and also lots of fun. I loved this book because you can really empathise with the main character. It focuses on lots of different people but the main character is Billy. Billy’s mum, who likes him to call her Sylvia, often takes Billy out of school to have an “adventure”. But when a fire starts at their flat, Billy gets whisked away from Sylvia and has to live with his long-lost Dad, Steve.

My favourite character is Anwar, who is Billy’s best friends. He is my favourite because he always sticks with Billy throughout good and bad times.
If you like books with some pictures but not too many, this is the book for you.

The illustrator, George Ermos, has managed to draw illustrations that are complicated but in an uncomplicated way. For example, in the chapter ‘How to make a firebow’, he has drawn a firebow just how I would have imagined it in a non-fiction book.

I would recommend this book to people who liked The Night Bus Hero by Onjali Q Rau’f because both books have elements of detective stories about them and they both have interesting characters who are both a bit different from the normal. I would also recommend it to anyone who likes zombie apocalypses! This is a definite read for anyone 10 or over.
