It would be pretty cool to see a wolf in the wild if it was at a safe distance
When I received this book in the post I thought it was going to be a kiddy book because it was thin but the writing was actually quite professional.
I like wild animals so I thought I would find this book interesting. It was good to read it and it helped me to like wild animals even more. When I looked through it the first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t a simple book, it was detailed and well written so I understood it better. When I read the book it made me feel more knowledgeable about wolves and it was more enjoyable to know that it was based on a true story.
My favourite wolf was wolf 2, he was the black one in the crystal creek/leopold pack. He was my favourite because he was the first one to enter the park. I liked that the wolves returned to the park because they needed to be there or else the ecosystem would still be collapsing. I think it would be pretty cool to see a wolf in the wild if it was at a safe distance.
The illustrations were very intricate, they helped me understand the story.
All in all I would say that this book is good for people who like short stories with lots of facts and detailed information.
About the Book
This is a true story about three wolf packs who were reintroduced to a National Park in the United States. The illustrations are beautiful and the design of the words (font) and layout makes it unusual and interesting for readers.
In fairy tales, howling wolves make us shudder. They’ve been hunted, captured and banished from many countries. When wolves disappeared from Yellowstone Park in the 1930s, the ecosystem started to collapse. Enormous herds of elk swarmed the plains, bears starved, rabbit families shrunk and birds flew away to new homes. Plants vanished, trees withered and rivers meandered and things did not look good until 1995 when wild wolves were assisted to return to the park. Then everything began to change for the better. This is the story of their homecoming.

Catherine Barr
Catherine Barr is a British author and environmental writer who — after campaigning with Greenpeace on wildlife issues — trained as a journalist and served as an editor at the Natural History Museum. She has published more than 35 non fiction children’s books, aiming to inspire young readers to learn about nature and conservation; her book 'Fourteen Wolves' was shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize in 2022
