Book Review
The action in the book starts almost immediately and throughout the book I felt as though I was on a rollercoaster of emotions!
Before I started to read this book thinking I thought that maybe it wasn’t really my kind of thing because I don’t normally choose to read fantasy stories. It did seem quite strange at first as most of the characters names were numbers rather than conventional names Eg. Twelve, Five, Seven etc. But I was intrigued to find out their significance.
The action in the book starts almost immediately and throughout the book I felt as though I was on a rollercoaster of emotions!
Twelve has suffered in her past and throughout the story we learn more and more about her and how she came to be at the Hunting Lodge. She is so angry and cold towards others as she tries to avenge her family. The plot twists and turns and it is impossible to know who to trust which keeps you gripped. There were times I couldn’t stop reading, I had to know what happened next and would good defeat evil.
I liked that Twelve had a special book called Magical Beastiary which describes each creature and rates it out of ten like Top Trumps, aggression, danger posed and difficulty to disable. Twelve was definitely my favourite character and I hope there is a sequel to this book and we can go on another adventure with her.

Aisling Fowler
Aisling Fowler is a British author of middle-grade fantasy fiction whose debut novel, Fireborn: Twelve and the Frozen Forest, was published in 2021. She studied Biology and previously worked as a support worker and nurse before turning to writing — now based in Hackney, she spends her time writing, reading, cooking, and plotting adventures for both herself and her characters.
