I like this book because it is about how nature can help us if we help it
This book is about a girl called Deriyn who gets left alone at a lighthouse when a terrible storm happens. Luckily her grandma is with her. What follows is a thrilling and magical tale. I like this book because it is about how nature can help us if we help it.
I love all the characters, but especially Deriyn because she is so determined to save the birds and the people. I enjoyed looking at the illustrations and they really helped to picture the world the author has created.
I would recommend this book to ages 7 to 10. I give this book 9.5 stars out of 10.

Deryn’s father is the lighthouse keeper on Featherstone Island, keeping the lantern lit to protect passing boats from the treacherous rocky coastline. But when an emergency arises and her parents have to travel to the mainland for help, Deryn is left alone to keep watch over the lighthouse, and she finds herself in a terrible situation when the lamp runs out of oil during a wild storm. With a fishing boat in peril on the sea, and time running out to rescue those on board, Deryn seeks help from an unusual source. Will she be able to keep the lantern lit through the dark, dangerous night?

Peter Bunzl is a British author and filmmaker best known for his award-winning Cogheart Adventures series, which blends steampunk, mystery, and adventure. Before becoming a novelist, he worked as an animator and short-film director, with his work screening at international festivals. His books have been translated into multiple languages and praised for their imaginative world-building and heartfelt characters.
