Emmy is my favourite character from the story because of her enthusiasm and positivity
I think this book deserves a 5-star rating because it is funny, informal and well-written. I highly recommend this book since I enjoyed it so much. The funniest part was when Emmy’s brother jumped with surprise on the day she beat the mulch queen. I learned a lot of new words around when Emmy beats Vanessa at the summer fair.
This story is about a girl called Emmy who lives with her mum and new dad who is called Stuart. Emmy who loves gaming and spends her time trying to beat the game, is elated when she finally beats the mulch queen. However, at school she is friendless because of Vanessa. Emmy loses everything because of her, but she soon finds a new friend called Jude when her teacher makes a club for people who prefer to use computers.
She and her new friend play games together, but when Emmy slaps Vanessa, she loses her new friend and because of that Vanessa is ruder than ever. Can she stop her being mean? One day at Jude’s house Emmy discovers a story written by Jude. There is a writing competition coming up, and Emmy wants to join Jude in.
Emmy is my favourite character from the story because of her enthusiasm and positivity. The story made me laugh when it described the look on Vannessa’s face when she did not win the book writing contest. I did not like the ending because I think It could have been more interesting and dramatic. I thought that maybe the author could have changed it by making it sound like Emmy and Jude went home together and played video games.
I recommend this book for older readers age 7 to 11. I would definitely read this book again.

Any young readers who enjoy gaming will enjoy this book about Emmy’s battle to overcome the school bully Vanessa written by Helen Harvey.
Emmy is brilliant at the computer game, Illusory Isles. Her avatar is a powerful fire elemental with magma claws and flaming breath. When Emmy’s gaming video gets a front-page feature, thousands of devoted fans flock to watch her battle the ultimate online baddie, the Mulch Queen herself. Life at school is the exact opposite. Emmy is friendless and bullied by Vanessa AKA the Queen of Mean. To Vanessa and her gang, Emmy is a weirdo with bad handwriting, horrible fashion sense and no dad.
Perhaps if Emmy can take on the Mulch Queen online, perhaps she can also find a way to take on Vanessa too? Emmy decides to level up and solve this challenge alone. But then Emmy discovers that Mulch Queens and Mean Queens are much easier to face when you have a little help from new friends . . .
