it combines fabulous fantasy with treacherous truth and determination
This book is set in reimagined India and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the story twists and turns and undulates, unfolding into a dastardly plot full of fantasy and magic.
This is a book about people who catch dreams before they fade into futile dust, making a library of forgotten dreams creating antidote for physical and mental ailments reusing the dreams for good. To catch dreams, they have a weatherbeaten hook and a mystical mirror. When the mirror senses a dream, it turns into a shimmering portal, allowing the dream catcher to gently coax the dream into a bottle, stoppering the dream from the fierce, unforgiving rays of sunlight, which turns them into ancient remains of what they once were, and the beauty they once held. Mimi’s parents are said to be traitors and are in prison for selling nightmares. All Mimi wants is for the citadel of mirrors to be home to happiness and goodness once again. But many people want to stop that from happening and to restart the nefarious trade of nightmares. Can she figure out who to trust, for there is more than one traitor lurking inconspicuously in their midst..
This book took on a wondrous journey through the crowded streets of Mumbai as I bit into delightful, delectable local doughnuts, gasped in wonder at the rows upon rows of bottled dreams in library of forgotten dreams and stepped through the shimmering portal of mirrors feeling the cool sensation of rippling water mixed with the warmth that only comes from standing near a crackling fireplace.
My favourite character was the protagonist Mimi as she always does what is right, and knows that one day evil can be defeated.
Full of mystery and imagination, this book is perfect for readers 9-12 as it combines fabulous fantasy with treacherous truth and determination.
Three things that I loved about this book are
1. It was full of lies and deceit
2. It kept me on tenterhooks till the end
3. It combined magic with mystery
The beautifully made guide to dreams at the end was my absolute favorite. I made my own dream hook – I wonder what I will catch tonight!

About the Book
In the Citadel, we hunt. Dreams are our prey. If we catch them before they melt into moonlight, they can be recycled and sold for great profit. My family has been hunting dreams for generations. Capturing them as they slip away, and storing them in a soaring, magnificent library.
Twelve-year-old Mimi lives with her Aunt Moyna in a centuries-old Citadel where she studies the ancient practice of making, capturing and recycling dreams. The Citadel was once run by Mimi’s parents who have been imprisoned by the king, accused of treason.
When Mimi spies a royal visitor, she uncovers a plot to transform the Citadel from a place of gentle, healing dream craft to one of creating nightmares in order to poison the king.
With only her dream creature, Lalu, and her best friend Rafi by her side, Mimi must escape the Citadel and begin a perilous journey across India. There are few people she can trust, but saving the life of the king is in Mimi’s hands alone…

Nazima Pathan
Nazima Pathan was born in India and raised in London, moving later to Cambridge where she lives with her husband and two children. She is a children’s doctor and researcher but has always enjoyed reading and writing stories. In a way, science when conveyed well is a tale of the why’s, the how’s and therefore’s. But children’s stories are special, important and fun, and after learning the craft of writing fiction, Nazima found a home in creating magical stories for curious children who believe in the right to dream.
