Coyote’s Soundbite- A Poem for Our Planet Reviewed by Lottie, Age 10

When I first received the book, I thought that it would be for children much younger than me because of the size of the book and the pictures on the front. It reminded me of books I read when I was younger.

However, when I actually opened the book and started to read it some of the words and the phrases are quite advanced and difficult ideas to understand and I think this book would be suitable for children from Year Three upwards, but they would need to read it with an adult or an older child.

I really enjoyed seeing all the illustrations in the books and got excited as I turned the page to see all the Goddesses. I also really enjoyed finding out about Kujum Chantu as she spoke of wonders of legends passed from young to old.

I like the story of the Coyote, a bit of it made me laugh. I also like the story of the goddesses and a story of women, but I do question why it is a male coyote who gets to talk at the Goddesses conference…

I loved reading all the descriptive language in this book and the use of metaphorical language.

The more I read this book the more I wanted to read it again because every time I looked at it again I noticed a new drawing or found something to use in my own writing.

This is an important story to tell because lots of bad things are happening to our world currently and it reminds us of what we need to do to help our planet.

In the book it says that humans are blind, and I think that is a metaphoric way of saying we are blinded by other things in our life and not seeing what is about to happen and what it in front of us.

I see the blind people as those who use too much plastic or are buying things that they don’t need because they can be using what they already have and don’t need to be chucking away too much plastic. So I believe that this book gives a message that message is if you care for the world, protect it.
