The way the author describes Billy slapping himself in the forehead makes me laugh so much!
Billy Benson is an ordinary boy, with a bit of a rubbish life. But when he’s ‘Bin Boy’, Billy turns into superhero who wears a bin on his head. Bin Boy’s gadgets are awesome! A ‘Supercharged Neodymium’ watch that can attract to any metal and is the most powerful magnet known to man, saves his life!
Viv and Connie are his best friends, they help Billy lead a double life and defeat his enemies. Connie makes all the gadgets, a blender that turns people inside out and rocket trainers, that come in very useful. Viv plans Bin Boy’s missions, heist, spying and ways to save the world using his dad’s police computer.
My favourite part is when Billy and Viv end up in ‘Pheel’s’ supervillain bat cave and they pull out the USB stick, erasing the memory. This results in Billy slapping himself in the forehead, the way the author tells this made me laugh so much.
This book is an action-packed book. You never know what is going to happen on the next page! It teaches you that no matter who you are you can be a hero too.
I would recommend this book to kids who like books about superheroes, teamwork and saving laughter from being destroyed.
About the Book
This is a super-fun, slightly bonkers, laugh-out-loud story about a boy’s quest to save the world from the extinguishment of laughter which is perfect for children aged 9 – 12 years. Tom Vaughan has written about 10 year old Billy’s adventure and illustrator Emma McCann has done the black and white illustrations.
Many children think their step-parents are super-villains . . . but what if they really were?
10-year-old Billy’s mum has just re-married, and his new step-dad Phil is smarmy and try-hard . . . Even if he is super rich. On top of that, Billy – and his best-friend Viv – are so unpopular at school, only the IT Club rank below them in the school food-chain. And, the school bully keeps throwing bins at Billy’s head.
So, when Billy discovers his step-dad is a super-villain with an evil plan to destroy the entire world, it is the perfect excuse to break Phil and his mum up. But gathering evidence about a super-villain is harder than it looks, and when Billy accidentally becomes ‘Bin Boy’ – a superhero sensation – things become a whole lot more complicated.
Suddenly the fate of the global population is on Bin Boy’s shoulders. Can he save his family and the entire world?!
