Beti and the Little Round House Written by Atinuke. Reviewed by Abidah, Age 8

Abidah’s review:
My favourite part is when Naughty, the baby goat butts Jac the baby on his butt!

These stories are about a girl called Beti. It was interesting to see how Beti lives in her house in the woods. They grow everything they eat and even drink milk straight from a goat! They pick flowers to decorate a birthday cake and collect their own water from the river. Beti’s friends also live in the woods, one lives in a house surrounded by ferns.

However, young Beti doesn’t get to play all day. She has to feed the animals and look after houses. My favourite story is the winter story when Beti doesn’t close the horses gate and they escape. Even though Beti is all alone and scared of the dark she calms the horses and ties them up.

Mum’s summary: Beti lives with her mum, stepdad Tad and baby brother Jac in a little round house in the woods under the Welsh mountains. On Beti’s birthday she is given a goat because she loves milk! But the goat’s baby is very naughty and spoils the party. Beti names the kid ‘Naughty’. The beautiful illustrations bring this collection of interesting stories alive.
