It made me feel overwhelmed with happiness and sad at the same time
Anita and the Dragons is a brilliant and heart-warming book. It is also a beautifully illustrated one.
Aimed at children aged 4-7 years, but can be enjoyed by older age groups like myself at the age of 9.
Younger kids like my brother who is 4 years old will love it because of the story of the little girl and how she imagines the airplanes. I love the description of different characters and the place where she lives.
There is not as much diversity in books as there should be and this one is based on a whole black family which l really like about the book.
It made me feel overwhelmed with happiness and sad at the same time; I felt happy that she had the courage to leave her country but I was also sad that she had to say goodbye to her family and her home.

In this magical story, set in the Dominican Republic, Anita watches the dragons high above her as she hops from one cement roof to another in her village and being the brave princesa that she is, she doesn’t let them scare her.
However, she must one day face her fears and begin life in a new country. Dare she enter the belly of the beast and fly off on a new adventure?
This picture book about courage and belonging by Hannah Carmona was inspired by her mother’s immigration journey. It is beautifully illustrated by Anna Cunha.
