Dealing with bullies is one step. But saving them is another
Tarn is a sad and lonely child since her brother died. She is feeling pulled apart from her one true friend Peter, a farmer’s son, because evacuee Eric has come to stay. She needs to learn that you can make friends anywhere, even if you don’t believe it.
Meanwhile, lonely and filled with memories from Dunkirk “the man” can only hide but soon becoming bored and restless he decides to make a name for himself by doing good deeds. When Peter’s dad has an accident the man, now nicknamed the “Angel of Grasmere” risks everything to get help.
I loved this book because of the way it was written in parts: Tarn then the man and so on, it was also written in months so August 1940 and then September 1940.
I loved the ideas in this story mainly because am interested in the history of World War Two but also because of the story line. My favourite part was when they went swimming at the end. I also liked the bits when Eric stands up to Dennis and when he falls down he always gets back up.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn a little bit more on WW2 or anyone who is a fan of all things adventurous.
I rate this book 10/10.
About the Book
July 1940 – as Tarn struggles to come to terms with the loss of her beloved brother in the chaos of the British retreat at Dunkirk, she and her friends scour the hills around their Lake District home, watching for any signs of the long-dreaded Nazi invasion.
But as the war drags on, with little good news from the front, the locals become aware of someone carrying out anonymous acts of kindness, such as saving a flock of sheep from a snowdrift and getting help for an injured farmer who might other wise have died.
With no one claiming credit, they come to think of this unidentified stranger as a kind of guardian angel, but when his identity is finally revealed can Tarn come to terms with the truth…?
