This book is stunning. It’s not exactly your classic mystery- the kids are the detectives! This book holds delightful illustrations by Daniella Sosa.
Zaiba has a confident, clever and slightly patronizing character. Zaiba, her brother (Ali) and her bestie (Poppy) all love solving mysteries. In this book they end up solving a mystery including a desperate hotel manager, a mysterious celebrity and a dog’s diamond collar.
I like that Zaiba is black in the story because not many main characters are and it makes a good change. Also, the plot is clever, but I can’t tell you how because that would be a major spoiler alert. I think Annabelle Sami uses really good language: she’s descriptive and there’s lots of dialogue. I also like how Zaiba sometimes refers to the Eden Lockett books, which are her own favourite detective series.

This is an amazing book – 6 stars out of 5. Watch out Sherlock Holmes!
