I loved this book, mainly due to the wonderful variety of stories. Each tale inspired me and made me think about the world we live in and each character painted a new image in my head.
As the name suggests, the stories are from Africa and the Caribbean. The book was divided into sections about different types of story, such as magic and mystery or trickster tales. Some tales taught me a lesson but others made me laugh – meaning there would be a story for everyone.
The description of the stories made me imagine bright, beautiful landscapes and transported me to lands far away from London. All the characters – whether they were leopards or lions, or good little girls or gods – all learnt something and every single story provoked an emotion inside me.
I recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy a good book!

This is a collection of folktales, myths and legends from all over Africa and the Caribbean, re-told for young readers by storyteller Wendy Shearer.
