I want the app Vinny uses which gives you a new word of the day every day
I think it was a good idea for Vinny to start writing advice for other people – he was very good at it even though he didn’t know the answers. I think I would be good at giving advice too.
#Terry Timpkins – such a cool pet lizard! I liked the name so much I gave it to my Lego baby velociraptor.
In the book they play Dungeons and Dragons which sounds cool. Somebody find me a copy of that game immediately!
This book is ‘Byzantine’ – which means highly complex. I want the app Vinny uses which gives you a new word of the day every day. He also learns the word ‘eschew’ and thought it was suitable for his dad – you’ll have to read the book to find out why.
There are a lot of feelings in this book – perhaps slightly older children will enjoy that more. By the end the family are talking about things and Vinny feels more supported.

About the Book
Vinny’s got problems – lots of them. His family’s falling apart, and his best mates have dumped him for some really annoying girls.
He should be able to turn to his mum for help – she’s an online life coach who answers other people’s problems for a living. But she’s too busy to see that Vinny is really struggling.
Unable to solve his own issues, Vinny starts replying to unanswered posts on an old blog of his mum’s. At first the solutions seem easy, and he can be as hilariously honest as any 12-year-old boy would be, but what will happen when Vinny realises he’s out of his depth?

Helen Rutter is a British children’s author known for her warm, humorous novels for readers aged roughly 8–12, including The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh and Me and My Brian. She lives in the countryside near Sheffield and her early career included acting and stand-up comedy, which helped inspire her writing. Her books have been widely published and recognised for their empathy, humour, and approach to real childhood experiences.
