A Mummy Ate My Homework is a book about a boy, Henry, who loves school and doesn’t like the summer holidays who accidentally goes on an adventure into the past.
There were lots of funny bits in this story. I really liked the part when Henry was in the desert but didn’t know where he was. He thought he was in Spain so started to speak Spanish to the Egyptians.
I also thought it was funny when the Pharaohs burnt Henry’s clothes and made him wear gold chains and Egyptian clothes.
I found the chapters quite long and I didn’t think there was enough description at times. But, other than that I thought it was a really good book and appropriate for under 10s readers. It also had lots of feeling in it which I thought was brilliant.
If you like funny books with a bit of history thrown in, you will love this! I rate it 4 stars out of 5.

Thiago de Moraes manages to weave the most unusual Ancient Egypt facts into a brilliantly funny story with factually correct added information at the back, including Hieroglyphics for readers to de-code for some interactive fun.
When Harry is sucked into a decidedly unusual vortex, he travels back in time to Ancient Egypt, which is… not ideal. After all, Harry is brilliant at maths and making lists, but surviving life in 3100 BC? Well that certainly wasn’t on his “to do” list for the day. Will Harry survive? Will he find his way back to the present day? And, more importantly, will he ever get his homework??
As you would expect from an accomplished artist each page is brought to life with detailed illustrations in yellow, black and white.

Thiago de Moraes is a Brazilian-born author and illustrator who splits his time working in a tiny shed at the bottom of his garden, creating picture books, comics, and non-fiction. His award-winning work includes 'Myth Atlas' and 'Old Gods New Tricks', and he has been nominated twice for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
