the story gets going quickly and smoothly, but instantly drags you into the atmosphere and emotions
Heart-felt, high-spirited, hectic and all about behind the scenes of a Hollywood blockbuster – The Music Makers.
I would describe this book as an outstanding piece of literature with a subtle plot-twist, incredible choice of destination and a superior front cover.
The opening paragraph is very enticing and does not focus too heavily on the starting point, which is perfect for me. The story gets going quickly and smoothly, but instantly drags you into the atmosphere and emotions. Jenny (the main character in the book) doesn’t know how to deal with the glitz and glamour and can’t seem to be part of their filming family, whatever she does she just doesn’t seem to fit in.
The book is fairly long but all the way through continues to interest you at the oddest of moments. It ends on a high note and will literally make you smile. The last chapter is as brilliant as the first and I would encourage for a sequel to be written, perhaps about the children being reunited again through another film.
I would really recommend this story to someone who likes acting and a little bit of a love story.
I personally really enjoyed this book and l am looking forward to hearing everyone else’s opinions and all the praise that Kate Saunders heavily deserves.
About the Book
It’s 1973. Soon to be English film stars Jenny, Belinda, Harriet, John and their mothers – one a dentist, another always drunk, a mother of the only boy and a grandmother who hates her granddaughter are off on an adventure.
They all setting out on a filming trip to France, where they will be staying in a chateau for the next year or so, alongside several other unknown foreign celebrities.
Just when everything seems to be going perfectly, an ignorant French star called Poldoni turns up and sends a tsunami of disaster over the plans for the Musical!

Kate Saunders (1960–2023) was an English writer, actress, and journalist celebrated for her versatile storytelling across children’s and adult fiction. After beginning her career on stage and television (including Only Fools and Horses), she went on to publish over 20 novels—winning the Costa Children’s Book Award for Five Children on the Western Front. Despite chronic illness later in life, she continued writing, and her final novel, 'A Drop of Golden Sun', was published posthumously.
