You Have the Power Written by Leah Williamson. Reviewed by Iona, Age 13

I enjoyed You Have The Power from Leah Williamson because the way the text is presented with many illustrations, different fonts and text sizes and snappy paragraphs makes it really easy to pick up and read without any difficulty.

It was interesting to read about Leah’s childhood, her passion for football as she grew up and her message about believing in yourself. It shows that football can equally be a girl’s sport (it’s not just for boys!) and Leah encourages girls in PE not to care about how they look but instead to concentrate on having fun.

My favourite bit is “the ten rules for believing in yourself” listed at the end of the book which is really inspiring. It’s not easy to push yourself out of your comfort zone, but Leah shows that you can miss out on opportunities if you don’t try new things. One of the reasons she started football herself was because her gymnastics coach brought out a football when there was spare time at the end of her lessons and this introduced her to her passion for football.

I believe this book is suited to kids in secondary school and I would particularly advise it to teenage girls that might need a boost of confidence, as it helps them understand that they don’t need superpowers – the power is always in yourself!

The book isn’t all about football as it encourages everyone to find and follow their passion and have confidence in themselves. Leah dedicates her book also to boys who choose to support and become allies to girls as they can help with their achievements.
