A truly amazing book. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it again!
The plot is brilliantly written so that you think you know what is going to happen, but then… BAM! Something different, unexpected and utterly thrilling happens!
My favourite character was Sam, because she was always so determined to rescue her sister and all the other missing people, even when she was terrified.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy and adventure.
Also, the book had a theme of helping stop pollution and cleaning up the ocean, and this has inspired me to do more to help the planet.
About the Book
Elio lives in a resort that his family owns on a Spanish island. It sounds great, but in the last few weeks, people have been disappearing. The police force and detectives looked everywhere searching for clues, but they really do seem to have vanished without a trace.
At first, Elio and his friends joke about the disappearing like it’s a game and it wouldn’t happen to them, but things gradually get more and more serious as many more people vanish. One night, Elio was taking a walk on the beach, when he saw his classmate Maria. She began walking towards the water, and when Elio shouted at her to stop, and come back, she didn’t seem to hear him over a mysterious song that filled the air.
Then, the sea parted for Maria and Elio turned to get help, but when he turned back, Maria was gone. When Elio told everyone what had happened, no-one believed him, until he met a tourist called Sam. Her twin went missing too, and as she and Sam uncover more secrets, they begin to think something fishy is going on…

Sophie Cameron is a YA and MG author from the Scottish Highlands. She studied French and Comparative Literature at the University of Edinburgh and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Writing from Newcastle University. Her debut novel OUT OF THE BLUE was nominated for the Carnegie Medal 2019.
