Jacqueline Silvester’s writing pulled on my heartstrings in a way that other books have not
The Last Wish List – Even the name intrigues! It reveals so much about the book while hiding everything, just by the title, this book dragged me in.
The book tells the story of a girl (Nadia)whose best friend, Lizzy, just died. Lizzy left behind a big wish list of things she wanted Nadia to help her cope with her grief. The journey just gets more and more exciting!
My favourite character is Aunt Larissa. Her character seems so nice and really thoughtful! Even though she doesn’t play a large part, Larissa seems like someone you could count on and to confide in. I think, without Larissa, Nadia couldn’t have completed her list. Larissa is also a great role-model for kindness and forgiveness. If something bad happens some people immediately think the worst and accuse, but she tries to find a reason for them not to be the bad person.
The scenes in the book are fabulous because of the details put in. For example, to move the story along, Fran and Nadia’s stops in the car always signify a change in event filled with new information. Tensions are always broken when they reach a new place!
Also, I love the way Nadia and Fran reveal more of themselves as they get deeper connected throughout the book. Jacqueline Silvester’s writing pulled on my heartstrings in a way that other books have not; I’ve never felt so emotionally intertwined with a character. Whenever something happens to one of the characters, I feel like I am there in the story and I know them.
About the Book
When Nadia’s best friend Lizzy dies, she leaves her last wish list – 16 wild and random things to do to help her get over her grief. Every item on the list feels impossible without Lizzy, especially finding a way to meet their favourite megastar.
Nadia’s quest takes her to America where, grieving and alone, she meets Fran, a boy with a big heart and an empty home. Setting out on the road trip of a lifetime along Route 66, the two make an odd couple. But with fate having thrown them together can they help each other find what they’re looking for?

Jacqueline Silvester has led a colourful life, having lived in a refugee camp in Sweden, a castle in France, a village in Germany, and spending her formative years between Los Angeles, London, and New York, which led her to speak four languages. She worked across poetry, prose, screenwriting, copywriting, and even a viral jingle. She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts and an MA in Screenwriting from Royal Holloway, University of London; she is the author of the debut novel Wunderkids and lives in London.
