The Broken Raven, by Joseph Elliott, is an amazing book constructed, for a three-dimensional image of the world, from three different perspectives.

It is about a boy called Jaime and a girl called Agatha as they try to rid their clan of shadows that attack and kill. Meanwhile, a girl called Sigrid is travelling through many dangers in order to warn them of a new threat…

Once you open the book and see the map before the story starts, you are immediately hooked by the fact that the story is set in the British Isles, hundreds of years ago. The map helps to pull you in and set the platform on which the story can unfold.

This is the second book in a trilogy called the Shadow Skye trilogy. Although I hadn’t read the first book, I could still understand what was happening. I really recommend this book, not only because of that, but also because of the vivid characters with distinctive  personalities and abilities.

I loved how the author has adapted some words of Scottish Gaelic for use in the story, and how the language spoken by Sigrid is inspired by old Norse.

This information is provided at the back of the book, and I like how the author explained this, so you know where the languages came from.

I love the descriptions that, used cleverly used throughout the book, bring the story to life. The plot is craftily constructed to keep you turning the pages. It is one of those books that you don’t want to ever finish because they’re so amazing, but you want to know how it ends. I also adore how the book ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, leaving the reader wanting to know how the story continues.
