The Binding Spell Written by Marisa Linton. Reviewed by Maggie, Age 16

I was very excited to read this book as the synopsis left me very intrigued without revealing too much about the plot.
This fantasy, thriller novel intertwines aspects of the supernatural world with dark academia vibes that will interest anyone who takes an interest in magic, the supernatural world or fantasy books.

The book follows Morgan, who moves to the country in the hopes it will get rid of her nightmares forever where she meets Joe Harper, whose secrets are as complex hers, but things take a turn for the worse when her nightmares get worse when her archaeologist father starts working at a local burial site.

The plot was very gripping and tense, but I felt it was a bit slow at some points during the story. This book explores themes like the grief of someone who has lost a parent not too long ago and the search for identity in a town that holds their family’s secrets without losing the plot.

My favourite character was Morgan as she was a complex character who never let the struggles of what she was going through at different stages of the book change her for worse.

I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 12 who enjoys learning about the supernatural or magic.

I think that people who are interested in shows like Supernatural or Charmed would love reading this novel.
