Take a Chance On Me is a great book that has many different themes including social anxiety and relationships which add thrills and curiosity. It portrays the flaws in people and how they can be upset and be helped by others. I really like how this book can mention so many different problems in life, but in a sensitive, kind way while describing how they can be helped without sounding like a boring manuscript. I think the reason this has been done so well is because of drama; I often find explanations are done better in real life situations which can’t be found by just stumbling into one on the street. A book is a less nosy way.

It’s difficult to choose which character stands out best, all of the characters are so unique and incredible! However, I have found two that stand and shine out brighter than all the others: Fiona and Poppy.

Fiona is not what I would call a stereotypical ‘sideline figure’ book character – she is not nervous or shy and is not alone when she struggles. Fiona came out to her friend who then exposed her before Fiona was ready. She was an outcast in ‘school’ society. However, Fiona found friends who accepted her and treated her well. She learnt to be proud of who she was and speak against the prejudice people who thought the very idea of her was repulsive.

Poppy is a challenger of stereotypes, especially when it comes to physical education. I’ve never been particularly enthusiastic about P.E., a spin instructor seemed like an unlikely favourite character for me therefore I was quite surprised to find one of my favourite characters was one! She’s kind, thoughtful, and full of opinions that go beyond just the physical. Not only is she aware of what’s best for herself, but she’s also genuinely willing to help others.

Reading all this, you might think I have given something away, I have only touched the surface!

I’ve never read a book like this before. I loved it!
