This book is really captivating from the first chapter
I thought that this was a really good book and I really enjoyed reading it. When I first decided on getting this book, I though that that it would maybe be a bit sad or not really my thing but once I read I was really grateful of choosing and it being able to read it.
I think that it should be for ages 12+ because for younger readers it might be sad or not understandable.
This book was about a girl who chose to go on a game show called Starmaker to help her brother with the money earned from this but there was a catch, you either win or lose. If you lose, there is a price to pay… that means ending your life!
It’s a life or death game show which Taryn was ready to win. No matter the outcome she wanted to try and save her brother form a long term illness, her mum passed a few years before this and her whole family has been struggling financially since so this was her only chance.
Her dad was quite scared about losing another member of their family but was also determined that she would be able to make it through. Taryn had the voice of her mother when singing which helped her through this. During the time she was there she met a boy who started telling her about many terrible things that had happened to him during his time when he went. How he was traumatized and how the Starmaker was full of terrible people only thinking about themselves, money and once you are in there you are trapped for a long time, something you can’t escape.
Taryn starts to fight back and stand with her remaining team. They fight until people stop killing people and are arrested for the behaviour and things they have done including causing harm. When the fight is over, her girl band comes back together and is ready to start over without anyone getting in their way.
This book was really good and I think the moral of this is about how some people step in your way or try to but you have to push through. It can he in a tough situation of and easy one but don’t let anyone get in your way or ruin things for you.
You also need to try new things, discover the world and be yourself meaning to go your own way in life not the path someone else wants you to go on.
