A funny and simple yet great novel including all the romance tropes we know and love!
In all honesty after reading the blurb and doing some research on the story, I was sceptical, as I thought the book was going to be a very predictable and boring read, and although it’s not THE best rom-com I have ever read, I think ‘Red Flags’ is a good introduction into the genre, especially for younger readers (12+)
The book revolves around ‘Poppy’ and ‘Cam’. Poppy being a fierce feminist who is done with a relationship the moment she spots a ‘Red Flag’ and ‘Cam’ the mysterious boy dressed in all black – never without his headphones, who can’t seem to get any of his relationships last because he always gets the ‘Ick’.
When Poppy tells her friends about her latest failure of a date, they challenge her to start a relationship that lasts for at least 2 months, and Poppy being the competitive girl that she is, she accepts the challenge…
Then, one day she spots a boy at the back of the bus, and despite his reserved demeanour, she decides to say hi, and ends up giving him her number.
When Cam met Poppy that day on the bus, he wasn’t sure about her, but after being challenged by his friend to stay in a relationship without being the one to end it, he messages her and they set up their first date.
BUT instead of wearing his usual Dr Martens and all black outfit that Poppy was attracted to, Cam shows up in muddy hiking boots and old clothes which Poppy is not exactly impressed with – Why? Poppys Dream Man list which Cam is determined to go against to get her to end things asap, it isn’t until he starts falling for her, he realises the mistake he’s made, but by then, perhaps it’s too late…
A funny and simple yet great novel including all the romance tropes we know and love!

Neither Poppy nor Cam want it to work … until it does. Poppy is known for her high standards. Why bother with relationships when boys don’t ever seem to live up to her expectations? One red flag and she’s out.
Cam is known for quickly developing the ick. He’s never dated anyone for long – a week here, a month there, but he always spooks.
When Poppy’s friends challenge her to give someone a chance for two whole months, Poppy decides that Cam (her mysterious bus crush) could be the best of an underwhelming bunch. But Cam’s been set his own challenge: he’s banned from ending things in his next relationship … and that means he’s ready to do whatever he can to put Poppy off.
Two skeptics. Two months. And this time, neither of them can disappear the moment they spot something they don’t like…
