I started reading this book hoping to find a cosy, cliche small-town romance book and I think I found it…
The book was hard for me to get into at first, due to the cringe American anecdotes and writing style, but it eventually grew on me.
The story revolves around ‘Lucy Kane’ a girl who lives in the small, autumnal town ‘Briar Glen’ and with her mother owns a small coffee shop ‘Cup o Joe’ that is well known for its cosy location and sweet treats.
All is well, until ‘Java Junction’ ( a huge coffee chain) comes to town with their renowned Pumpkin Spiced lattes, and it appears Cup o Joe may be under threat of closing down, the solution? – making the cult classic PSL better than Java Junction, the problem ? – Lucy HATES Pumpkin Spice Lattes and refuses to make them, until one day she walks into ‘Cup O Joe’ to see her mother serving a PSL to a customer. Lucy hates this but for the business’s sake, she goes along with it.
Then one day, ‘Jack Harper’ the son of ‘Java Junction’s’ owners, agrees to help Lucy come up with a better and more ‘authentic’ PSL recipe, why? – well Lucy just doesn’t know…
A quick, ‘Gilmore Girls esqe’ book for readers aged 11+, overall, I would recommend this to those who want a cute yet insanely cliche ‘Hallmark’ novel for the ‘Fall’ season!
About the Book
Fall is a big deal in Briar Glen, a quaint and charming village in New England. That’s when tourists from all over the country descend upon this picturesque town to see the babbling brooks and colourful leaves while sipping hot chocolate or pumpkin spice lattes.
