Book Review

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Sci-Fi and dystopian themes

New You For Ever by Steve Cole is a dystopian, Sci-Fi graphic novel mixed with mystery and suspense. The story follows a boy who lives in our future Earth where there is a company called ‘New You’ who creates robots in which your body can stay young forever. As the story unfolds he begins to wonder whether ‘New You’ is all it says it is.

A strong part of this book is its mystery and suspense. Steven Cole creates a tense setting, especially during moments where we get sneak peeks of ‘New You’s true intention. This kept me interested whilst also adding a sense of mystery.

The illustration is very cool using a very blue colour palette which really transports you to 2070.

The main character, Anders, is well-depicted as he becomes more and more curious and independent throughout the book. This makes him very likeable and easy to root for.

This book was EXTREMELY hooking as it explored concepts of the beauty standards of current society and the trend of always having to be and look perfect and how that eventually leads us to act like robots.

About the Book

The year is 2070, and the New You Foundation claim to have found the ultimate answer to the climate crisis. They want human beings to transform themselves into Pleekas – perfect artificial replicas. Pleekas can go on for ever but won’t create waste or use the Earth’s resources.
Too good to be true?

When a chance meeting leads young journalist Anders Jones to the sinister truth, he must risk everything to expose New You – if it’s not already too late …
