How to Survive a Horror Sequel Written by Scarlett Dunmore. Reviewed by Zahrah, Age 14

I had the pleasure of reading the first instillation of the series last year ‘How to Survive a Horror Movie’ and I truly loved it. It was devoured within merely a few hours, and it will continue to be a spooky season re read, hence when I was offered the opportunity to read the sequel, I gladly accepted knowing it would be just as addictive as the first book.

Our protagonist Charley has been trying to forget the horrific incidents of last year at Harrogate (the once prestigious all girls boarding school) by hitting the road with her mother, yet despite getting further and further away from the house of horrors, and her once best friend turned psycho killer – Olive, she can’t seem to shake the feeling that she is coming. Matters only get worse when after a bit of car trouble, Charley and her mother encounter the small town known as – ‘The Devils Punch Bowl’ Could it be any more obvious?

After befriending the local misfits, Charley learns that this town is perhaps just as sinister as she thought – but does she have what it takes to stop history repeating itself? The dead are talking again, and she better listen.

A fast-paced, chilling novel perfect for spooky season fanatics and horror film connoisseurs everywhere. The novel perfectly blends the likes of cult classic slashers such as ‘Scream’ with a modern-day twist and adds a sense of relatability for the young adult audience.
