Book Review

This book will give teenage girls everywhere the courage that they need to speak out about sexism and bullies

Hexed is an extremely powerful book!

It’s all about a teenage girl, Jessie, who struggles to fit in at her new school. She has always been taught to keep her ‘head down’ but how do you do that when you’re a witch?!

All Jessie wants is a normal life. She wants people to stop staring at her, because she’s the ‘new girl’. Though when it’s time for her to speak up about things, she has to forget about keeping her head down, and speak up and tell the truth – along with some close friends.

I admire the author for writing about the subjects of consent and sexism, within the story line of the book, that teenage girls face.

This book will give teenage girls everywhere the courage that they need to speak out about sexism and bullies.
I think this book is aimed at Year 8/9 students and above, as it contains some young adult themes. I would certainly recommend this book to my friends – it is such a page turner, and I started and finished it over a weekend!
