Book Review

The story has taught me to have confidence in who I am

Initially, having read the blurb for Felix Ever After, I was unsure if I would really enjoy this book as romantic fiction is not a genre I would usually read. However, as soon as I began reading the book, I felt great empathy for the main character, Felix, and his desire to experience love and happiness.

Throughout the story, as a reader, you are exposed to the marginalisation that people like Felix – gay, black and transgender can experience every day.

The story follows a roller coaster of emotions such as anger, fear, happiness and contentment as Felix strives to find true love. On his journey he has to deal with how the outside world perceives him and his own fear that he is not good enough to be loved.

The story has taught me to have confidence in who I am. By being true to myself and who I am will allow me to build strong relationships and hopefully find love as I grow older.
