Evenfall – The Golden Linnet Written by Alexander Armstrong. Reviewed by Lyra, Age 11

Sam is an ordinary boy except for a few things: his weird sense of knowing what people are saying and a whole more heap of things he’s about to discover. His Mum died when he was little, so his life quest is to find out why she was in Snowdonia. But he could never actually figure it out, right? His Dad is sick and not getting better, Ken is just the guy to help, but when he tells Sam he is going to have to move Sam is faced with fear, he doesn’t know what will happen next. Sam’s Uncle has not been around for a while and when a mysterious parcel for Sam turns up for him, he is sure Jimmy is the sender.

Ish is Sams best friend, with a supportive mum and dad; and an over-eccentric Linnet loving Gran. He is the complete opposite to Sam in absolutely everything, but they’re still best friends. Ish follows Sam and goes with him on their quest. Along the way they meet Nicky Peverel, or Goz to everyone she knows. She teaches the boys how to survive in a big and cruel world. At first she is quiet about her life and then she opens up and reveals that both her parents are dead (!) and her step dad is in prison.Together they learn to co-operate with each other and when the time comes, to save the world.

I absolutely loved it all and can’t choose a favourite part. I actually stayed up until like 11 p.m. one night because I could not stop reading!

I think it’s an amazing book, my favourite character was Georgie. I would give it a ten out of ten! And recommend it to people who love magic and fantasy.
