This Romeo and Juliet retelling is perfect for fans of star-crossed lover stories
Burn The Water is set in the future where London has been flooded and those who survived have to fight over resources in order to survive. One day Jule and Rafe meet and everything they knew changes the moment their eyes meet. All they want is peace and to be together. But soon strangers arrive in London and everything changes once again.
In my opinion this was a good book because the characters stood out to me. They bring so much depth to the story that I didn’t expect. Like in Romeo and Juliet I preferred Jule/ Juliet to Rafe/ Romeo. I think this was because I view Jules as a powerful character who can do anything she wants. While Rafe comes across as quite whiny. He fell in love with her no questions asked, much like Shakespeare’s Romeo! Though I will admit that he had some prominent character development.
However, this story wasn’t really for me. Mainly because of the constant POV change just in a single chapter. It made me very confused while trying to get into the story. I think that I would have enjoyed this book more if it wasn’t for that small detail.
This Romeo and Juliet retelling is the perfect for fans of star-crossed lover stories. I would recommend it to readers aged 13+!
