Book Review

It has everything: perfect characters, good plot incredible setting and a little bit of romance!

Well. Let’s just say that this book DEFINITELY lived up to my standards! Blood Flowers by Jay McGuiness was absolutely amazing ! It has everything: perfect characters, good plot incredible setting and a little bit of romance!!

I think, overall, Felix was my favourite character. I don’t know why, I just absolutely loved his personality and how cheerful he was! He was so loyal to Bear as well and I think that’s a really good trait to have, especially if you live in a place that is quite poor.

When this book finished, I was lost for words. I cannot WAIT for the second book (I’m assuming there’s going to be one) and to see what happens next!!
Also, for any readers who like to keep there emotions in tact, I wouldn’t read Blood Flowers because, oh my god, it made me so sad, then so angry then happy in a matter of literal minutes!

To sum it all up, I honestly think this is an absolute masterpiece, especially for a debut novel. I would rate it 4/5 stars, purely because five stars for me means the book is as good as my new favourite author’s writing.

About the Book

From debut novelist Jay McGuiness is an exciting new dystopian romantasy featuring witchcraft, betrayal and murder set in the walled town of Calleston.

Seventeen-year-old Bear is painfully conscious of the inequalities between his people, who live in Cobbleside, and residents of the more affluent Roofside. When the town’s annual Field Day – an event during which those who’ve recently come of age test their Sinsen growing capacities – shows Bear to have unprecedented abilities, he’s hurtled into the upper echelons of society, and everything he’s ever wanted is within his grasp.

However, far from living the dream life Bear finds himself existing amidst an uncaring, callous people, concerned only with themselves, living in a society in which corruption is rife.
Finding himself unwillingly entangled with the Overlord’s beautiful but spiteful daughter, Bear is forced to make decisions which may jeopardise everything he’s dreamed of – or risk the lives of the people he once lived amongst…
