The Rapping Princess

The rhyming words made the book more fun and made me want to practise some rapping too.
I loved the book as soon as I saw it because the cover was bright and beautiful and I love reading stories about princesses.
I felt sorry for Shiloh beause she couldn’t sing and she was trying so hard, but then I was really happy when she found her true talent. This was different to her sisters singing but it was still lots of fun and it made her happy. I liked the way her sisters helped her with her show at the end.
The rhyming words made the book more fun and made me want to practise some rapping too.
All the pictures in the book are really colourful and make me happy.

Incidentally one of the other things which we talked about was that it was nice to see a princess with a brown face. Emaan told me all of the princesses in the books she has read previously only have white faces so that was nice to see.
About the Book
This feel-good and fun story encourages us to embracing our differences and celebrating them. It is about a princess who could not sing, but she found her voice through rap instead!
Author Hannah Lee has written the story in verse so it can be read with a catchy rhythm and illustrator Allen Fatimaharan has created some bright and beautiful pictures to accompany the story.
Our young reviewer loved it and her mum told us that it is the first story about a princess that her daughter has read featuring a princess with a brown face.

Hannah Lee
Hannah Lee is a London‑based British children’s author who writes picture books aimed at celebrating diversity and identity. Her debut book, My Hair (2019), was Highly Commended in the 2017 FAB Prize, and her follow‑up, The Rapping Princess (2021), is a rhyming fairy‑tale that encourages self‑expression and confidence.
Illustrator
Allen Fatimaharan
Allen Fatimaharan is a British illustrator and animator, born in Sri Lanka and raised in Southern India and France, who now lives in Oxfordshire. He works primarily on children’s books, comics, and educational animations, and was named the official World Book Day Illustrator for both 2022 and 2023. His debut picture book, 'My Hair', was nominated for a CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal in 2020.
