This is lovely fun and gentle book to start a dialogue about everything that has happened in this past year and a half
As a lover of all animals, especially tortoises this caught her attention straight away!
She immediately noticed Tortoise’s shell hidden amongst the rocks and enjoyed a bit of pantomime, shouting ‘he’s over there!’ as poor Hedgehog looked around for his hibernating friend.
A lot of time was spent on the last page “Who’s hugging who mummy? Why are they hugging?…Are they in the same bubble?”
This is lovely fun and gentle book to start a dialogue about everything that has happened in this past year and a half.

About the Book
Everyone’s favourite (socially-distanced) characters have returned to entertain us during this seemingly everlasting era that necessitates remote behavioural patterns and a deficit of hugs (for grown-ups too).
This gently amusing story is a welcome reminder that hugs from those we love and care about will be there a-plenty when the right time arrives to enjoy them. They are waiting and will be better when they can be enjoyed whilst feeling safe.

Eoin McLaughlin is an Irish children’s book author whose debut picture book The Hug (illustrated by Polly Dunbar) became a bestseller and was named a “Book of the Year” by The Guardian. Before devoting himself full‑time to writing, he worked as a creative director at Channel 4, contributing to major TV productions. Today he lives in Mauritius where he continues to write humour‑filled, heartfelt books for children.

Polly Dunbar (born 1977) is an English children’s author and illustrator celebrated for her vibrant, whimsical picture books such as Penguin, Dog Blue and the Tilly and Friends series. Her work has earned several awards and brought her recognition as one of BookTrust’s “Ten Best Illustrators,” and 'Penguin' remains a beloved modern classic.
