Enthralling!
Edith was enthralled the first time we read the story.
She loved joining in with Ben’s hoots and spotting the different creatures that also live in Mr Hoot’s tree.
We also did a lot of counting: animals, owls, eggs in the tree.
The book led on to discussions about what owls eat, where they live near us (we sometimes hear them in the tree near our house) and what conservation is and why it’s important.
About the Book
This delightful picture book is by one of our favourite authors and illustrators – Helen Stephens. It is about a boy who has a special friendship with an owl that he calls from his bedroom to named Mr Hoot. The grown-ups think Mr Hoot is only an imaginary friend so, you can imagine the boy’s concern when he learns that Mr Hoot’s home is going to be cut down…
This is a warm, funny and inspiring story with a message about how we can all help protect the wildlife that lives all around us and how sometimes the youngest of us can make the biggest difference and be the most influential.
