I like Jake’s mum. She finds fun things for Jake like a cycle in the skip. I like the dog in the book too. There are so many colourful pictures and I like pointing and learning new words.
Mum’s view:
A delightful book about a mum in a wheel chair who finds old things in the street, skip or in an antique store and puts good use to rubbish and junk she finds. She makes good use out of old things by repairing them. Jake, her son gets worried that his mum might want to change him too. At the end of the story, the mum says ‘There’s not a single thing about you I would ever change as you are my one and only must-have son’. It is a beautiful story I can relate to as I like finding second hand treasures and I have a son, that I really cherish too. This book is colourfully illustrated and there is lots to talk about on each page.

Jake’s mum is not like most mums. Say there’s a skip in the street, most mums will pass right by without a second glance. Not Jake’s mum. “Look at this, Jake!” she’ll shout. “We must have this! We must have this, too! And we simply must have this!” That’s Jake’s mum for you. She’s a must-have mum.
When Jake’s mum upcycles every last thing in the apartment, Jake begins to worry that the only thing left to change is…him! Will Jake’s mum try to change him too?
A heart-warming story about the unbreakable bond between a mother and her son, and a little boy who learns that he is perfect just the way he is.

Maudie Smith began her career as an actor, creating new musical plays and writing lyrics for many of them. In 2011, she completed an MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University and has had a number of books for children published since then including Dressing Up Dad (Lantana)
