You should read this if you like animals, magic and silly, funny trouble
I just read My Magic Hamster by Leah Mohammed and it was super fun!
I liked how Sana finally gets a hamster called Frank. He’s not just any hamster but he’s magic and very cheeky. He grants wishes and makes silliness happen, like turning the bedroom into a hamster paradise and even turning into a cat.
The pictures were cute and helped me to imagine Frank’s chubby cheeks and his twitchy whiskers.
My favourite part was when Frank wished for crazy things and Sana had to try to fix everything. It made me laugh a lot.
I would tell my friends – you should read this if you like animals, magic and silly, funny trouble.
I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars) because it was very fun, but I wish one of the wishes was even bigger!
A Short Introduction to the Book
Two short stories in a slim book that is not overwhelmingly lengthy for emerging young readers.
Sana has always wanted a hamster. But when she buys Frank, she gets a bit more than she’d bargained for. Because Frank is a special hamster. A MAGIC hamster. And a VERY NAUGHTY magic hamster, who keeps getting Sana into all kinds of trouble!
Sana is thrilled when she discovers Frank can grant wishes. But she quickly learns magic isn’t as easy as it seems when Frank wishes her cool new bedroom into a hamster paradise!
And when Frank turns himself into a cat so he can play with the cats next door, he gets in even more trouble! Can Sana find a way to get him back, or will Frank be stuck as a cat for ever?

Catherine Leah Mohammed is a British-Asian author who lives in Surrey, UK, and draws on her mixed English and Pakistani heritage to create inclusive, magical stories. She holds a degree in psychology and a master’s in psychotherapy and previously worked as a therapist before pursuing writing full-time. Her debut children’s series, Luma and the Dragon, follows Luma’s adventures with her mischievous dragon-dog companion, Timir.
